Cat Colony Update

Check out the Freedom Riders and their support of these colony cats!

On Sunday, February 5th, PET Projects began spreading the word about cats being rescued from an abandoned house in near Lockeport (total rescued: 31!). Since then, the plight of these cats has been featured on television and radio news, and shared through Facebook and email networking.

As a result, we are happy to report that over $2500 has been raised, and the PetFocus Veterinary Group has spayed and neutered --- FOR FREE! --- all the cats that are healthy enough for surgery! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR OVERWHELMING SUPPORT!

Funds that have been donated will be used to provide routine medical care (such as defleaing, deworming, and Feline Leukemia/FIV testing), surgeries and advanced care for those that need it, transportation to Halifax for the surgeries, food, litter and other care supplies. Any surplus will be used to help other spay/neuter efforts in Shelburne County, such as the wharf cats in Woods Harbour. You can give securely online using PayPal by visiting CanadaHelps.org; you will receive a printable tax receipt via email!

To learn about other ways you can help these special cats (such as fostering, adopting, or sponsoring a cat), please contact us; thanks!

Help us Help Chained Dogs!

New Chronicle Herald Article!

Let's work together to make 2012 the year we bring Nova Scotian dogs inside! Let's free them from continuous chaining and penning. PET Projects has been working to address the issue in Southwest Nova Scotia, as well as raise awareness provincially. It is the hope that if we work together, we will be able to facilitate the change in provincial legislation that is required to limit the amount of time dogs can be socially isolated and kept outside. The Facebook group People for Dogs will provide a forum for people to share ideas and post resources such as surveys and petitions, as well as be kept up to date on meetings in your area, and on the progress we are making. You can also email us at peoplefordogs.ns [AT] gmail.com.
